U.S. Media Educator to Give Presentations in Taiwan
美國在台協會(AIT)宣布將於10月13日至17日,贊助美國知名多媒體教育專家凱撒琳‧巴岑‧科佛(Kathleen Bartzen Culver)來台訪問。訪台期間,科佛將針對各種媒體議題舉行研討會、演講,並和業界人士進行交流。
科佛為威斯康辛大學麥迪遜分校的新聞與傳播學院助理教授,以及該校新聞倫理中心的副主任。科佛博士長期以來關注數位媒體對於新聞業和公共利益傳播的影響,因此她的研究特別側重於社群媒體工具、科技進步和網絡資訊的道德層面。除此之外,科佛也擔任波因特媒體研究機構(Poynter Institute for Media Studies)的客座教授,以及美國公共電視網PBS MediaShift部落格的教育總監,協助推動新聞課程的創新。
科佛博士的職業經歷非常豐富,曾擔任警政記者、雜誌編輯、和行銷經理等工作,因此得以運用其多元的專業背景,設計出能培養學生靈活的寫作技巧和批判思考能力之課程。她在學術方面亦擁有廣泛而多元的訓練,包括在威斯康辛大學麥迪遜分校取得大眾傳播碩博士學位,專攻媒體法規。科佛博士的主要研究領域有網路媒體、視覺傳播、品牌塑造、資訊取得、媒體倫理、及數位媒體,特別是社群媒體工具。
科佛博士將於台北和高雄兩地的新聞傳播系所演講並舉行座談會。10月17日下午2:30至4:30,科佛博士將於美國在台協會美國中心(地址:台北市基隆路一段333號國貿大樓21樓2101室)舉行專家座談會,題目為「數位時代裡新聞傳播的趨勢、工具與科技」。本座談會對外開放,現場提供同步口譯,報名請電洽美國在台協會文化新聞組,電話:(02)2162-2038、(02)2162-2034。
U.S. Media Educator to Give Presentations in Taiwan
The American Institute in Taiwan is pleased to sponsor the October 13-17 visit of Kathleen Bartzen Culver, a noted multimedia educator, who will conduct workshops, talks, and professional exchanges in Taiwan on media issues.
Kathleen Bartzen Culver is an assistant professor in the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Journalism & Mass Communication and associate director of the Center for Journalism Ethics. Long interested in the implications of digital media on journalism and public interest communication, Dr. Culver focuses on the ethical dimensions of social tools, technological advances and networked information. She also serves as visiting faculty for the Poynter Institute for Media Studies and education curator for PBS MediaShift, where she helps advance innovation in journalism curricula and courses.
Dr. Culver credits her diverse professional background, spanning from police reporter to magazine editor to marketing manager, in helping her develop courses to make students adaptable writers and critical thinkers. Her academic experience and training includes a master’s degree and a doctorate in mass communication from University of Wisconsin-Madison, with an emphasis in media law. Dr. Culver specializes in online media, visual communication, branding, access to information, media ethics and digital media, especially social tools.
Dr. Culver will speak at various journalism schools and conduct workshops in Taipei and Kaohsiung. On October 17, she will conduct a panel discussion entitled, “Journalism in the Digital Age: Trends, Tools and Technologies,” from 2:30-4:30 p.m. at AIT’s American Center in Taipei.
